Flawless.org is a not-for-profit advice website for potential cosmetic surgery patients and they released data on the most searched for cosmetic surgery procedures is 2019, the results may surprise you.  Breast Augmentation would perhaps be the treatment you would assume is the most search for, and indeed this is the procedure we carry out most of Elanic.  However, the most 'Googled' cosmetic surgery search term 2019 was liposuction.  Breast Augmentation according to BAAPS is the most performed cosmetic surgical procedure. 

People are looking to refine and contour their shape and get rid of pesky areas of fat with the help of surgical liposuction. Liposuction, also sometimes referred to as liposculpture is a surgical technique to removed unwanted fat deposits from the body. Common problem areas our patients have come to us with are the stomach, thighs, calves, arms, back and hips. Sometimes no matter how stringent you are with your diet and exercise you may find it near on impossible to reduce certain pockets of fat on your body, this is where liposuction is extremely effective.

Traditional liposuction involves making a small incision in the skin and sucking the fat out through a tube; it is most suited to people who have a specific area of fat to target and whos skin is firm and elastic.  Several of our procedures are paired with liposuction to contour the area such as gynecomastia and the tummy tuck.  

Elanic offers two other types of liposuction called Smart Lipo and Vaser lipo both extremely effective methods of surgical fat removal. Your suitability for your recommended type of liposuction will be discussed in detail with your patient coordinator and surgeon at consultation. 

Smart Liposuction commonly also referred to as laser liposuction uses a very thin cannula containing the SmartLipo laser is inserted into a small incision in the skin.  The fibres of this laser deliver heat to the fat cells to disrupt the fatty tissue, allowing the fat to be removed via gentle suction.  The tissue around the area then tightens giving a smoother result. This is one of our most popular procedures at Elanic and can be carried out as a day case in our state of the art theatre on Bath Street.

Vaser Liposuction uses a form of ultrasound technology that first liquifies and then removes excess fat from the chosen targeted area.  As Vaser Liposuction only focuses on the fat cells it means it is less invasive than traditional liposuction. Vaser Liposuction can have a quicker recovery time as its targeted technique for fat removal damages less of the surrounding tissues than the traditional method. 

It is important to consider that liposuction is not the correct procedure for the removal of large areas for fat or as a method to control or lose a substantial amount of weight. Rather, these methods of liposuction are for those patients who have smaller stubborn areas of fat that will not reduce with diet and exercise alone. Another benefit to Vaser and Smart Lipo is that they also help to tone the skin around the area giving you a smoother, firmer result.
