If you’re unhappy with the results of prior breast augmentation or have developed uncomfortable complications, breast implant exchange may be the right choice for you. At Elanic, our surgeons are highly experienced with this procedure and can help you by restoring your ideal curves.

Ideal Candidates for Breast Implant Exchange
During your consultation, your surgeon will get to know your personal goals and medical concerns and will help you pick out the procedure that is ideal for you. You’re likely to be a great candidate for an exchange of breast implants if you’re interested in:
- Removing and replacing PIP implants
- Improving the shape of your breasts
- Increasing or decreasing your breast size
- Replacing an older implant that has ruptured
- Replacing implants that have changed after weight loss
- Replacing implants that have changed after pregnancy
- Uplifting implanted breasts that have drooped with age
- Correcting capsular contracture
The Exchange of Breast Implants Procedure
Performing an exchange of breast implants (also known as a reaugmentation) is more involved than placing breast implants in the first place.
For this reason, the operation is slightly longer, usually performed under general anaesthetic, and often requires an overnight stay in one of our private hospital partners. You’ll go over all of these details with your surgeon as part of your consultation process.
If you no longer want breast implants, it is also possible to remove them and remodel the remaining breast tissue to maximise the cosmetic appearance of your bust. We usually carry this procedure via the original scar to minimise further scarring and utilise high-quality Mentor breast implants made by Johnson & Johnson when performing an exchange of implants. Implant size, type, and shape will all be discussed and selected as part of your surgical consultation, giving you an exemplary level of control over your final results.
How Long Is the Recovery After the Exchange of Breast Implants?
Just After Your Surgery
Immediately following your surgery, you will be required to wear a post-operative bra for six weeks to provide you with the best possible results. You may experience some swelling and bruising in your breasts and surrounding areas in the days following your procedure, but this will subside within a week with suitable pain relief.
Back to Your Normal Routine
Any dressings will be removed after a week of your procedure. We typically recommend that you take one to two weeks off from work (depending on your occupation). Your total recovery time will likely be around six weeks, and we’ll be sure to schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress as closely as possible.

Breast Implant Exchange
What is breast implant exchange?
Breast implant exchange is a surgical procedure that replaces existing breast implants with new ones. It can help improve breast size, shape, or comfort, or address complications from previous implants.
Why might someone need a breast implant exchange?
Patients may choose breast implant exchange for several reasons, including ruptured implants, capsular contracture, changes after pregnancy or weight loss, dissatisfaction with size or shape, or removal of outdated PIP implants.
Am I a good candidate for breast implant exchange?
You may be a suitable candidate if you want to change your breast size or shape, correct complications like capsular contracture, replace ruptured implants, or adjust results following aging, pregnancy, or weight changes.
What does the breast implant exchange procedure involve?
The procedure is typically performed under general anaesthetic and may take longer than initial breast augmentation. Surgeons often use the original incision to reduce scarring, and implant type, size, and shape are chosen during consultation.
What is the recovery time after breast implant exchange?
Recovery usually takes around six weeks. Patients wear a post-operative bra for six weeks, may return to work within one to two weeks, and experience initial swelling and bruising that typically subsides within the first week.
