What Happens in An Eye Brow Lift Procedure

An eyebrow lift is a relatively simple surgical procedure that can eliminate wrinkles and open up the eye area, making your face look more youthful. With ageing, lines and wrinkles appear on the face, across the forehead, and between the eyebrows due to constant muscle movement; however, plastic surgery in the form of a brow lift can help you to regain a smooth, fresh-faced appearance by getting rid of deep lines and bringing the brow line back to its ideal position.

Brow lifts, which are also known as forehead lifts, are effective in making patients who have harsh frown lines and dropping eyelids appear younger. Carried out by an experienced plastic surgeon, these lifts lead to forehead lines fading or even disappearing and the eyelids being raised. The overall effect is a more energetic, youthful appearance, which means patients feel more confident and rejuvenated.

There are different types of eyebrow lift surgeries available that cater to the needs of individuals and offer beautiful results. In traditional brow lift surgery, patients are given a general anaesthetic. Their surgeon then makes an incision below the hairline, from one ear to the other, which lifts the skin and smooths out wrinkles. It also repositions the brows. The surgeon removes any excess skin before sealing the incision with stitches.

An endoscopic brow lift also requires a general anaesthetic and sees several small incisions made across the scalp. An endoscope – a small camera on the end of a tube – is then inserted into the incisions, allowing the surgeon to see what he is doing on a screen. The forehead skin is then lifted, the brows repositioned, and any muscle tissue that has caused lines is taken away. As the cuts are smaller, an endoscopic lift is less invasive than a traditional lift, with minimal scarring and a shorter recovery period.

After surgery, bandages are left on for a couple of days and stitches can be removed after a fortnight; however, the recovery time depends on the patient. Side effects are less noticeable with an endoscopic brow lift but can include bruising, swelling, numbness and tingling. There may be some discomfort or pain, but most patients can resume normal activities after a few weeks.

Most patients who go for this procedure are aged between 40 and 50, with mature skin that has brow lines and saggy eyelids. Before undergoing surgery of this type, they should fully understand what is involved and what can be achieved by having several discussions with an experienced cosmetic surgeon. Some may decide that they will achieve a better overall look if they combine an eyebrow lift with another cosmetic procedure, such as eyelid surgery or a facelift.
