Breast Implant Exchange at Elanic

There are many different reasons a patient might be interested in changing their breast implants, which can include the removal of PIP implants, an alteration to the size of your current implants, or the removal of uncomfortable capsules around longstanding implants. In most cases, patients will have had their breast implants for around 10 to 15 years before considering an exchange or removal.

Whatever your reasons may be, our plastic surgeons are particularly skilled in the replacement of breast implants. At Elanic clinic in Glasgow, our aim is to help you to achieve the look you desire, whether that is with bigger breasts, uplifted breasts, or an improved shape of the breasts. To learn more about exchanging your breast implants, reach out and set up your consultation today.

The Exchange of Breast Implants Procedure

Performing an exchange of breast implants (also known as a reaugmentation) is more involved than placing breast implants in the first place.

For this reason, the operation is slightly longer, usually performed under general anaesthetic, and often requires an overnight stay in one of our private hospital partners. You’ll go over all of these details with your surgeon as part of your consultation process.

If you no longer want breast implants, it is also possible to remove them and remodel the remaining breast tissue to maximise the cosmetic appearance of your bust. We usually carry this procedure via the original scar to minimise further scarring and utilise high-quality Mentor breast implants made by Johnson & Johnson when performing an exchange of implants. Implant size, type, and shape will all be discussed and selected as part of your surgical consultation, giving you an exemplary level of control over your final results.

How Long Is the Recovery After the Exchange of Breast Implants?

Just After Your Surgery

Immediately following your surgery, you will be required to wear a post-operative bra for six weeks to provide you with the best possible results. You may experience some swelling and bruising in your breasts and surrounding areas in the days following your procedure, but this will subside within a week with suitable pain relief.

Back to Your Normal Routine

Any dressings will be removed after a week of your procedure. We typically recommend that you take one to two weeks off from work (depending on your occupation). Your total recovery time will likely be around six weeks, and we’ll be sure to schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress as closely as possible.
