A new favourite amongst people looking for less invasive procedures to improve their looks and reverse the signs of aging that affect facial tension and shape, the one stitch facelift has made a significant change to the options available. A cosmetic procedure like others, improving definition, silhouette and smoothness of the face, the one stitch facelift carries many benefits over the other treatments available in terms of its minimal healing time and lack of scarring.
The one stitch facelift is a process in which a length of stitches is pulled underneath the layer of skin, being attached behind the ear or in the temple area just inside the hair line. This conceals the small incision in a way that means most people’s scarring becomes totally invisible, covered by their natural hair. A system of conical structures run the length of the suture, which when pulled through the face become caught in the deep tissue and anchor the sagging skin back into the desired shape. By pulling the skin upwards in this way, the signs of aging are hidden: loose skin is tightened to reveal a smoother, more natural look to the jaw and cheeks. The thread used for the one stitch facelift is typically made from a biocompatible polypropylene, a material which has been a part of sutures in cardiovascular surgeries for many years.
A candidate for this kind of rejuvenation should discuss their options with the practitioner, but generally most treatments take a similar shape. The areas of problematic skin and sagging are identified and marked, drawing a line for the stitches to follow and enabling an exact placement. The nurse will administer a local anaesthetic to the area, through the side of the face, to numb the cheek, jaw and temple and to prevent any pain during the process. A needle is used to insert the suture thread into the side of the face from an entry point concealed in the hairline, placing the thread to the points marked in the consultation process. When this is done, the threads are pulled back towards the temple to counteract the effect of gravity and to anchor the cone points along the thread into the skin, attaching the skin into its new and more youthful appearance. Some unusual clients require more than one stitch on each side of their face but typically, one is sufficient. The process is then repeated on the other side.
Immediately following the procedure, the client will see a number of small marks on the side of their cheeks and jaw line, caused by the needles. However, these heal very quickly and are usually able to be concealed using normal make up the following day, enabling a full return to work and normal life within 24 hours for the majority of customers. Generally, the face feels tender to the touch for up to one week, particular around the sutures themselves. Normal paracetamol pain relief can help, though many candidates do not feel the discomfort is even of a high enough level to need even those. Most candidates also experience very little bruising, far less than seen in the more invasive facelift techniques.
Compared to other facelift techniques, then, there are several advantages to the one stitch approach. The minimal swelling, bruising and scarring seen with the one stitch facelift is a major factor, enabling customers to return to work very quickly and to experience minimal disruption to their lives. In addition, the use of local anaesthetic rather than general anaesthetic is also an advantage for many people. Likewise, the effects appear very natural when healed, without the loss of movement associated with other kinds of anti-aging treatments which can sometimes ‘freeze’ the face to prevent loss of tone.
Effects of the one stitch facelift last for between 18 months to five years, depending on skin condition and aging rate. After the process is completed, the face continues to age at its natural pace – but starting from a much more youthful state of appearance, this means that the individual continues to look far younger than their years. Popular with people of all backgrounds, the process can make a dramatic difference to the face whilst going through only minimal discomfort and inconvenience.
