Laser Treatment

A Laser is a special type of high energy light beam which has effects on the skin. In many cases, lasers work without leaving a scar. Depending on the type of laser used, different skin problems can be corrected. Some of the uses of laser include:

Hair removal

Leg vein removal

Acne Treatment and Treatment of Acne Scarring

Removal of facial age spots

Wrinkle treatment

Tattoo Removal

Our lead consultant, Vivek is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in laser treatment. In his NHS practice this is used to treat women with severe hair growth, patients with severe post acne facial scarring, birthmarks, tattoos and facial veins. Privately Vivek works at the Glasgow SK:N Clinic to provide a range of treatments.

What can be treated with lasers?

The above list illustrates the most common laser treatments, although LASERs may be used for other superficial skin problems. If you are in doubt Vivek will discuss your problem with you and tell you what treatments may work - simply book a consultation here.

How much will it cost?

In most cases there is a fixed cost for the laser treatments, although price reductions may occur if a bundle of treatments are purchased. In many cases multiple laser treatments are required to get the best results so a bundle may work out as the best value for you.

Does it hurt?

The laser feels like being snapped at with a rubber band, which only lasts for a fraction of a second. In most cases only a mild pink rash is left by the treatment, which disappears after a day or so. With a resurfacing laser a local anaesthetic is required and the skin behaves afterwards like a superficial burn.

What problems can occur?

In most cases laser treatment is very safe. Very occasionally there may be a slight change in the colour of the skin being treated, and it may go slightly darker, like a sun tan, or become slightly lighter. It is extremely rare to be left with a scar after a laser treatment.

Does it work?

Laser treatment is extremely effective at treating many skin conditions. Some conditions cannot be treated with laser or the results are disappointing. The best way to know whether your condition can be treated with a laser is to have a consultation with an experienced laser Consultant. Vivek specialises in laser treatment privately and for the NHS. He is one of only a few qualified NHS laser Consultants in Scotland.
