What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is the name given to botulinum toxin A. This is actually derived from the bacteria that produces botulism and has the ability to paralyse small muscles when given in minute quantities.

How does BOTOX® work?

The lines and wrinkles which appear on the face are a sign of ageing, and occur because of the connections of the facial muscles to the skin. By using Botox it is possible to paralyse parts of these muscles so that the lines are reduced or disappear.

The technically difficult part to the procedure is knowing where to inject so that lines are removed, but facial expression is still possible (avoiding the "deadpan" look). Our Lead Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Vivek has spent years learning and understanding the anatomy of the face, and can inject botox whilst maximising safety and minimising unwanted effects.

Following your injection you may occasionally see small bruises, which will settle in a couple of days. The effects of the botox take a few days to work and usually last between 3-6 months, when the treatment should be repeated to retain your results.

What can Botox do?

Botox is ideally suited for patients with fine lines on the forehead and around the eyes: it can also be used less frequently around the mouth and on the neck. The best time to start using BOTOX is when lines and wrinkles first show and their progression can be slowed or reversed. For more established wrinkles BOTOX may be used with a filler for more improvement

What are the dangers of BOTOX®?

BOTOX® does not cause systemic internal side effects, but occasional allergies can be seen. For this reason we believes the safest place to inject BOTOX is within a medical establishment, and we would not inject BOTOX within hairdressers or Gyms.

How much does BOTOX® cost?

The price varies depending on how many areas are injected - please contact us for more information, arrange a consultation with Vivek.
