Laser Experience
I have extensive previous Laser Surgery experience. I was employed as a Laser Clinical Research Fellow between March 2001 and August 2003, during which I conducted 1400 laser cases including 750 resurfacing procedures. I have experience of using many different Laser and IPL systems and have Laser experience gained in Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit and St Andrew’s Plastic Surgery Unit, Chelmsford.
I have conducted research in Laser Surgery using a newly developed technique of depth measurement videomicroscopy to image capillary structure in Capillary Malformations undergoing laser treatment. This had led to six first author full manuscript publications and 11 oral presentations and 2 posters at National and International Meetings. I was the recipient of travel bursaries to attend both the American and International Laser meetings to present my research and was selected to publish my findings in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, the World’s premier laser Journal, as one of the best presentations at the American meeting. My research has earned me the award of an MD from Edinburgh University.
I have also completed the BTEC qualification in Laser Surgery and between 2003-2005 was the UK National Representative to the organising committee of the International YAG Laser Society.
Aesthetic Experience
I have undertaken 9 years training in Plastic Surgery, including learning aesthetic surgery exclusively during two periods of Aesthetic Fellowship. In 2005 I spent time working with Mr Martyn Webster and in 2008 I spent a further period training in the finer points of aesthetic finesse.
During my NHS Plastic Surgery training I have undertaken a wide range of aesthetic procedures and am happy to offer the full range of aesthetic procedures to my patients.
In my Consultant post I conduct laser resurfacing, chemical peels and rhytidectomies for patients with post acne scarring.
Fellowships
In 2008 I completed my overseas Microsurgical Fellowship. During this time I spent 8 weeks visiting Prof. Fu Chan Wei at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Prof Isao Koshima at the University of Tokyo and Prof Wayne Morrison at the Bernard O’Brien Microsurgical Institute in Melbourne, Australia.
During these fellowships I learnt a great deal about optimising free tissue transfer, especially in Taipei where one lead surgeon may be involved in three or four free flaps in one day. I also learnt many intricacies of perforator flap surgery especially from observing and talking to Prof Koshima. I was also taught how to perform lymphatico-venous anastomosis using supramicrosurgical techniques whilst in Tokyo. During all three visits I believe the greatest element I have learnt has been the ever increasing role for microsurgical techniques in plastic surgery.
