Obesity is becoming an epidemic in the Western World. Modern surgical techniques exist to cause weight loss through gastric banding or stomach stapling. This frequently leaves terrible skin excess as the fat disappears but the skin cannot. The aim of this Symposium was to discuss the latest surgical tecniques to reconstruct the body after massive weight loss.
Jan 2011 - Vivek has become one of the first Plastic Surgeons in the UK trained in the revolutionary I Guide Neck Lift.
Invented by Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Gregory Mueller the I Guide neck lift allows loose skin and fat on the neck to be corrected with less downtime and more predictable results than can be achieved with traditional techniques.
Oct 2010 - Vivek is now offering VASER Liposuction.
The latest advance in Liposuction allows large areas of fat to be removed in an outpatient procedure for the fist time in Scotland. VASER allows fat to be dissolved prior to removal, allowing for a much more comfortable procedure and results which continue to improve up to 6 months after the Surgery.

As an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer Vivek spervisors a University Research Student looking at blood supply in Surgical procedures. It is hoped this work will add to our knowledge and improve the safety of microvascular free tissue transfer.

September 2009 – Vivek is featured operating in the BBC documentary “My New Breast”
My New Breast is a documentary filmed earlier this year at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow. It follows the path of three women embarking on breast reconstruction. During the programme Mr Vivek Sivarajan, Consultant Plastic Surgeon is seen performing a microsurgical DIEP breast reconstruction. This type of breast reconstruction can take up to 8 hours to complete and involves detaching and re-attaching blood vessels. These vessels are as small as 2mm in diameter. This involves using a powerful microscope to put in stitches smaller than a human hair.
